The Near Eastern wild cat is ancestor and closest relative of all domestic cats. And while years of breeding has produced hundreds of ‘different looking cats’, the internal workings of wild and domestic cats remain unchanged,  so it’s no surprise that their dietary needs remain the same too.

  Your cat is a carnivore and biologically adapted for a diet rich in fish and meat. Equipped with sharp teeth, a single hinge jaw, and a short digestive tract, domestic cats are anatomically designed to break down protein and fat from fish and meat.

  That’s why we loaded ACANA Pacifica with 75% wild-caught Pacific pilchard, flounder, silver hake and rockfish, all fished off Vancouver Island and deemed fit for human consumption prior to inclusion in our foods.

  Entirely free of the pea or potato protein concentrates, ACANA derives its rich protein content from fish ingredients (not plants), supporting lean muscle mass and nourishing your cat completely.

   Your cat has no nutritional requirement for carbohydrates and his natural diet contains very few, if any. Carbohydrates are widely recognized as a leading cause of obesity and diabetes – yet conventional cat foods often exceed 50% carbohydrate content.

  That’s why ACANA limits total carbohydrate content and replaces fast digesting carbohydrates like rice, tapioca and potato with healthy, low-glycemic fruits and vegetables such as squash and greens. These enter the blood stream slowly, avoiding spikes in blood sugar and decreasing the potential for fat storage.
